Careers at Articulated

This is an inclusive space. As Vancouver’s only LGBTQIA2S+ exclusively lead design firm, we aim to make safe spaces for our team members who want to shine bright.

What’s it like to work on our design team?

We believe that good design is rooted in the established and accepted design process. We have a hybrid approach with anchor days available when you're ready to work independently and respect our boutique firm nature, even though we operate from our home base in Vancouver, BC. Our client portal is where we primarily inform clients and customers about our work. Although we enjoy your creativity, when it comes down to brass tacks, we are looking for candidates who best embody our mission and, while we welcome everyone to apply, our culture is driven by technical skills rooted in the health, safety, and welfare of the clients and their spaces occupants that we serve.

What to expect:

  • We have a blended working model, meaning working from home is a privilege not to be underestimated because, when the time is right, you’ll have learned what you need to from experienced, well-seasoned design professionals with our coaching and training model.

  • We believe in work-life balance, meaning when you’re not working you are signed-out. No client or vendor has your personal contact information and you should never respond to emails during after-hours and weekends.

  • If you’re the right person for the job, then of course your variable physical needs will be accomodated. No one lifts cabinets, or lugs big samples up 3 flights of stairs either, but if you want to bike to work and vendors, we embrace that too.

  • We provide you with your own telephone extension, email address, software licenses, and sign-on to our Client Sudio Portal.

  • We offer flexible time off, paid vacation, extended absences, and sick days. If you need an extra day off, or need to get to that doctors appointment in the middle of the day, or are having trouble aligning the work schedule with daycare — we’re here to help.

  • We have team coffees, lunches, and dinners off-site when appropriate, or to celebrate landing a great new project.

  • Be who you are. Tattoos, piercings, hair colour and style is all welcome here; yet, we would be remiss that if we did not say that we are professionals working for professionals and aim to emulate our clients expectations while providing diversity and uniqueness.

  • After 1 year, we offer you an professional development fund (calculated based upon your work schedule) toward earning your professional credentials such as NCIDQ, CKBD, WELL-AP, Leed Green Associate.

  • Every hour you work is a work a sponsorship hour toward earning your NCIDQ or CKBD — the choice is yours, or both!

  • We pay for you to attend local networking meetings, such as NKBA BC Chapter meetings, IDS Vancouver seminars, etc.

Typical job descriptions

  • This is an entry-level or temporary intern position where collaboration occurs within our systems and processes. Starting with this foundation means a well-supported team member. The DA’s responsibilities include filtering general inquiries, writing tear sheets, sourcing materials, preparing purchase orders, and managing our orders. Creative aspects include preparing new Design Palettes, organizing the material laboratory, and supporting the design team with file preparations and even space planning layouts for our Online Design Work.

We value qualified education with a minimum of a 1 year certificate in interior design or design formations, art & architecture history, graphic design, industrial design, etc., but formal education from an illustrious school isn’t necessarily going to make a candidate a good fit for our team. Applicants need to be well-suited for business communications, able to manage their time remotely, and good task masters of their calendars and workflow. There is generally no travel required for this position.

    • Type: Casual, Part-time

    • Base: $18-20 per hour

    • Hours: Within posted business hours

    • Language: This position requires fluency in UK English.

    • Seated: This position requires the applicant to predominantly work at a desk, either sitting or standing, while accessing their computer for a duration of upto (3) hours at a time.

    • Lifting: This position may require some light lifting of about 25 kg (55 lbs.). For example, moving samples from a vehicle to indoors while moving indoors or outdoors. We encourage using “wheely baskets” when doing so (if required).

    • Disability: All are welcome.

    • Remote Work Eligible: Yes, 100% remote work could be eligible after a minimum 90 days probationary period provided it meets our business and work performance needs of “Keep calm, and design on.".

  • The Interior Design Technician role is a big thinker and critical analyzer who works with Clients on their commercial and residential projects. Experience with preparing visual design presentations and technical construction drawings is key to the ID-Tech’s success within the team. Experience with designing, specifying, drafting, and ordering cabinetry is ideally suited to become a vital asset at Articulated. Code-compliance research, accessibility, universal design and sustainably are equally important too. This position is often highly coveted and desired for most candidates, yet we think of this position as someone who embodies pattern, colour, personality, and professionalism. Selling your idea, furniture, cabinets, window treatments and more is like running your own mini-studio lactic from within, so understanding workflow, error reduction, and quality control are great skills to have.

Building on the experiences and requirements of the Design Assistant, a Interior Design Technician holds a minimum 2 year diploma in design of physical environments (interiors or design foundations), but like the Design Assistant role, it’s not always about the education earned but how it is used. The ID-Tech likely recently obtained their Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer (CKBD) or National Certification of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), or is on the pathway already to their Well-AP or even LEED Green Associate. Previous experience in a customer service environment, furniture sales, window treatments, paint mixology, visual merchandising and more transferable skills are all assets we want to know about.
