THE HEART OF DESIGN

Driving Change Through Good Design Work

  • Our History

We began Corey Klassen Interior Design in 2011 with humble beginnings — a trunk full of samples and a float-home project. Since then, our design work has amassed a significant number of award-winning projects. In 2015 we launched into online design packages and in 2016 we began designing corporate workspaces. Our rebranding in 2020 to Articulated Design Studio provide a balance of leadership between spouses and self-professed “design nerds”, Corey (Principal + Creative Director) and Andrew (Studio Director).

  • Our Mantra

Our mantra is “Let’s do good design work together” and we embody this collaborative effort through every line we draw, every finish we carefully select, and every presentation we enthusiastically share. With a spirit of positivity and togetherness, we believe there is not a single design project that is too small or too large, too complex or too refined, or even too understated or too strong for our dedicated approach. Each endeavor is treated with the utmost care and attention, ensuring that every client's vision comes to life.

  • Our Approach

The word “articulated” means a flexible connection between two moving parts. We envision ourselves as the creative leg in a three-legged stool, where the client and the contractor are the other two legs. In a project focused on the designed environment, if one leg is absent or missing then it is expected that the goals and objectives stated at the outset of a project will be compromised. When all three legs of the stool can work together, much like an orchestra or rock band, we all have a good experience.

  • Our Community

We are passionate about our community. Having completing the former Tour de Cure for a few years, Corey’s focus is on raising awareness for cancer care and research through community cycling events and completing a “tripple crown” is in spirit only.

We also are working with the HOMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS in support of Take a Hike Youth Mental Health Foundation.

Our Core Values

  • Connection

We are all connected together. We achieve successful projects results with our clients, contractors, and co-creatives through collaboration. Connecting our vendors, makers, crafts persons, tradespersons, and allied professionals together

  • Personal

We appreciate the challenge of solving unique design problems. As a small business, being nimble means that we bring an intimacy to your project through our custom and personalized approach.

  • Inclusive

Our designed environment have a duty to create supportive, accessible and safe spaces. Our diversity makes us stronger together and our inclusion is rooted in designing from the margins.

  • Colourful

Colour is everywhere and it informs our lives and culture in many different ways, but there is not much that can go wrong with colour when you understand how to us it. We use the application colour carefully through its true hues, undertones, and intensity.

  • Sustainable

Indoor air quality, daylight and views, temperature control, and the harshness or softness of an environment are paramount. We exercise responsible design through waste reduction, reducing our carbon footprint, and advocate for technology.

  • Pragmatic

We work in many grey areas and are the keepers of many secrets. Our level-headed approach means we are focus on solving the design problem instead of trends. Our most favourite projects often remain unpublished.

Meet the Design Team

Our dedicated team is committed to using their experience and expertise to meet the project brief. Whether you are local or remote, we operate with positivity. We are all in this together.

Corey Klassen

(he/they) PRINCIPAL + CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Corey started Corey Klassen Interior Design in 2011 and rebranded to Articulated Design Studio in 2020 and quickly became a renowned interior designer working in the kitchen and bath space. Coming from a long line of creatives, builders, farmers, by way of Winnipeg, Calgary, and now Vancouver, Corey has won 17 local and international design awards with a large resume of projects and some pinnacle collaboration opportunities with shelter brands like DXV by American Standard and BLANCO. Corey was named a 2020 Innovator for Kitchen & Bath Design News Magazine.

My passion for interior and architecturally minded environments is simple: it has to function first. If the space doesn’t function, or there’s an environmental behaviour problem, I must to work to resolve the problem with an appropriate design solution. Design can often be fickle and opinionated, but trends come and go. What never changes is good design.

As a volunteer for the NKBA BC Chapter, Corey established the Western Canada Design Excellence Awards as the VP of Professional Development, later becoming Chapter Representative. They contributed as a Peer Reviewer for the NKBA’s Professional Resource Library and later a Subject Matter Expert and Content Coordinator for the 4th edition of the Kitchen & Bath Planning Guidelines. Corey frequently speaks on interior design topics and has been passionate about teaching emerging interior designers for over a decade, most recently as a professor at LaSalle College Vancouver in the Bachelor of Applied Design in Interior Design program. Corey also helps leading industry brands develop learning content for other interior designers.

VERIFY MY CREDENTIALS:

  • Andrew Luketic

    (he/him) STUDIO DIRECTOR

Andrew is the “the elastic band” (as he likes to call himself) at Articulated. His area of focus is on the client journey, décor and styling, project management, vendor relations, and sales and marketing (to name a few hats.) With a B.F.A. from Emily Carr University, he has over 15 years of experience in organisational leadership and project management with creatives and was a chef in some of Vancouver’s finest restaurants. With a passion for decor and furnishings formed out of his experiences travelling across North America and parts of Europe, Andrews favourite part is seeing the transformation of a project from a two dimensional design concept into a built environment.

  • Mason Both

    (he/him) INTERIOR DESIGN TECHNICIAN

Mason is an Interior Design Technician, holding a Diploma in Interior Design from the Visual College of Art and Design. Here at Articulated, he helps the design team with work on all sorts of residential and commercial design projects.

Mason has always had the ‘travel bug’, rooted in learning about new cultures and seeing different architecture & design elements around the world. With a passion for sustainability, he is currently working towards getting his LEED Green Associate Certification.

He brings attention to detail, organization and an interesting outlook to all aspects of projects. Oh, and you’ll probably find him trying to fit the colour green into your project, as it’s his favourite!
