Rollout the Custom Wallpaper

I had the opportunity to sit down at the Vancouver Art Gallery with a recent student of the college where I instruct design courses. It was a great experience, not just because one of my first awesome bosses ever who happens to work at the VAG snuck us into Grand Hotel, but because this student actually has a degree in architecture and I think our mindset on design is actually similar in a lot of respects. When it comes to designing interiors, wether it be kitchens, baths, or living rooms, the importance of artwork is often overshadowed by the magnitude of the decisions the homeowners make and the reality of project can often set in with budgets, timelines, and displacing your family home. Pre-planning has everything to do with a sanity check and a creative vision, an that is why it is essential to pre-plan for artwork, art-walls, or even decorative murals.

As a designer, I like to look for the unique, the custom, the individual things that you don't see anywhere else. Currently, I happen to be on a bit of a wallpaper kick, painted walls are sobering to me at the moment, and I found the folks at Rollout when I went out to the Interior Design Show (IDS) in January. Considering the textural experience I had at the VAG I reached out to Rollout Design & Mfg. Co. because I want to showcase what a carefully curated wallpaper collection can do.

What Rollout has done with Martin II Mytens piece is almost a found-object type of effect. This not-so-subtle homage to Renaissance portraiture is a great way to pair the old with new..

For the wine lovers and for the pattern lovers... kind of a crazy mish-mash of corkage. Consider an off-the-wall geometric pattern instead of a traditional trellis or paisley.

City dwellers unite! This pixelation of skyscrapers provides an interesting textural element with movement, vibrancy, and geometry in a unique and uncompromising way. Not for the fait at heart, but definitely for the hit of fun and wow.

About Rollout Design x Mfg. Co.

ROLLOUT, established in 2005, is a creative studio that designs and digitally prints custom wallpapers by the square foot.

Recruiting community-based artists and designers, ROLLOUT is constantly on the hunt for exciting ideas from any inspiration. Illustration, photography, graphic design, and industrial design provide the inspiration; the walls provide the medium.

ROLLOUT was born out of the need for graphic expression in the interior design industry. Gone are the days of slick minimalism. We embrace texture, expression, emotion and colour, filling the gaping hole left by modernism. More is definitely more. And that's what we deliver to our clients. More innovation. More creativity. More art. More individuality. More community. More you. Need we say more?
