South Gate Kitchen
Condo Kitchen Renovation in Vancouver, B.C.
The story
The homeowners found they loved the urban lifestyle and location of the condominium they just moved into. Yet they realized there wasn’t enough storage capacity or function in their new home. There were real traffic flow problems they only noticed after moving into their new home. The project resulted in a complete renovation of the condo’s kitchen.
There are a few images of what the kitchen was like before, as well as the construction drawings, to show the level of detail we provide with our kitchen renovations. If you would like to know more about condo renovations or renovating a condo kitchen, there are additional resource articles below.
The concept for the design solution was to remove the wall between the kitchen and the living room, create an eating bar with a beverage centre, and keep the ventilation in the exact same location. This meant modifying the layout of the kitchen slightly, as the homeowners did not like that the living room and kitchen are separated from each other. They wanted more openness so they could communicate and interact with their guests between the kitchen and the living room/dining area as they entertained. As vegetarians, they valued better types of dry and cold storage to enable the style of cooking they were accustomed to. They even had a workaround of a secondary refrigerator outside on the balcony until their new kitchen was realized. The kitchen’s linear layout worked well, as did the location of the vent for the exhaust fan. It just needs a design solution, an update to the finishes, and a few new appliances.
